Overview
Most of the case studies in this portfolio are engagements built for other people's businesses. This one is different: KnowOpp Academy is a business built from scratch, end to end, by Think Growth Consulting itself, as a Greek-language education platform for independent hoteliers and short-term rental owners. It exists to prove the same capability this portfolio is built to demonstrate, not by advising someone else through it, but by doing it directly: spotting a market opportunity, defining an audience, positioning a brand, building a product line, launching a platform, and growing it with content, email, and AI, all under one roof.
The Journey
Market Opportunity
Independent Greek hoteliers and short-term rental operators share a structural problem: heavy dependency on Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) for bookings, which erodes margin and hands pricing and guest relationships to third-party platforms. Generic hospitality education exists, but almost none of it is built specifically for the Greek market, in Greek, addressing OTA dependency as the core problem to solve. That gap, a specific audience with a specific pain and no one speaking to it directly in their own language, was the opening KnowOpp Academy was built to fill.
Audience
The audience was defined narrowly and deliberately: independent Greek accommodation owners, from small hotels to short-term rental operators, who run their own properties rather than operating as part of a large chain. Staying niche was treated as the moat from the start. Broader, non-hospitality expansion was ruled out as a dilution risk; any adjacent audience would warrant a separate brand rather than stretching KnowOpp's positioning.
Positioning
The brand was built on the StoryBrand SB7 framework, with a clear villain, hero, and guide: OTA dependency is the villain, the Greek hotelier or STR owner is the hero of their own story, and KnowOpp Academy is the guide that helps them win back operational and revenue independence. Every piece of messaging, from course sales pages to newsletter copy, is built around that same narrative structure rather than generic educational marketing.
Course Portfolio
The product line was built around a hero offer, a listing optimisation course, priced as an accessible entry point, with a broader library of on-demand courses covering the operational levers hoteliers actually control: cost management, electricity cost reduction, channel management, guest communication and automation, pricing and revenue management, and AI-powered housekeeping. Live cohort-based workshops, capped in size and run on a schedule, sit above the on-demand library as the higher-urgency, higher-touch offer, including a hands-on content creation workshop and a workshop specifically on how AI-driven search is changing how travellers find accommodation.
Website
The platform itself went through a real build-and-rebuild journey. It started on LearnWorlds, an off-the-shelf course platform, before dissatisfaction with its limitations led to a full migration onto a self-hosted WordPress site running the MasterStudy LMS plugin, giving far more control over checkout, design, and the buying experience. A vendor directory covering the tools hoteliers already use, channel management, pricing, PMS, payments, and more, is in development on the same platform, extending the site from a course catalogue into a fuller resource hub for the same audience.
Acquisition
Growth runs on a layered acquisition model rather than a single channel. A free lead magnet, an "Anti-OTA Playbook," is the top-of-funnel entry point, distributed widely to bring new hoteliers into the ecosystem. Live workshops, deliberately capped in size, create genuine urgency and scarcity that lead promotional messaging, with the on-demand course library serving as the secondary, always-available offer for anyone not ready for a live cohort.
Email Marketing
An email list of roughly 11,000 Greek hoteliers and STR owners is managed through Brevo, with a consistent weekly newsletter structure built for engagement rather than generic updates: a hook, a news section bridged with "what this actually means for you," a practical tip of the week, product calls-to-action, and a teaser for next week's edition. Subject lines are tested in variants built around different psychological levers, pain-led, curiosity-led, and low-commitment framing, since villain-first, pain-plus-curiosity subject lines consistently outperform generic curiosity alone.
Content
Content runs on a repurposing pipeline rather than one-off creation: a single blog post becomes platform-specific social captions, video description variants, and newsletter integration, so one piece of writing feeds every channel instead of starting from zero each time. The "AI with Dr. T" personal brand carries this content across TikTok, LinkedIn, and Facebook, each with its own register, casual and direct on TikTok and Facebook, more formal on LinkedIn, while staying tied back to the same KnowOpp Academy positioning.
AI Integration
AI runs through the business as infrastructure, not as the headline. Courses like the AI-powered housekeeping module and the AI-driven search discoverability workshop teach hoteliers to use AI for business outcomes, revenue, time saved, and independence, rather than treating AI itself as the product. That same principle extends to a separate B2B offering under the same personal brand: EU AI Act compliance training for HR Directors and Compliance Officers, proof that the same AI-literacy foundation built for hoteliers scales into a distinct, higher-value corporate training line.
Why It Matters
Consulting advice is one thing. Having actually built, launched, and grown the exact kind of business being advised on is another. KnowOpp Academy is the proof: a niche audience identified from a real market gap, a brand built on a genuine narrative framework, a course and workshop portfolio priced and sequenced deliberately, a platform migrated and rebuilt when the first choice didn't hold up, and a growth engine running on email, content, and AI integration all pulling in the same direction. It is the same playbook this portfolio's other case studies apply to client businesses, run here on our own.
